Course Description
This practical course equips global health professionals with the skills to use generative AI more systematically, effectively and responsibly across research and professional workflows. Through hands-on exercises and real-world global health applications, participants will explore AI-supported approaches to evidence discovery and synthesis, research and data workflows, knowledge translation, grant development and other professional tasks. Throughout the course, participants will learn how to select appropriate tools, design reliable workflows, critically verify AI-generated outputs and integrate responsible AI practices into their day-to-day work.
Date & Time: Every Saturday from 26 September to 14 November at 13:00 (UTC)
Format: The course consists of eight live, interactive online sessions delivered over eight weeks. Each session combines short conceptual inputs and live demonstrations with guided exercises, individual or small-group activities, discussion and practical application to global health research and professional tasks. Between sessions, participants will have opportunities to reflect on and apply what they have learned through short activities, quizzes, readings and an online course forum.

The personal data provided during registration (e.g. name, address, organisation, function, e-mail, phone) required for participating in the e-Learning and/or face-to-face courses are stored at evaplan servers or on servers of Hetzner GmbH data centers (located in Germany) and are used for coordinating the courses and providing you with access to the platform of the courses and the BBB platform for online videoconferences. In addition, the list of all applications will be stored on the servers of evaplan at the University Hospital Heidelberg and Heidelberg Institute of Global Health.

The data is used exclusively for the purpose of providing you access to the e-Learning and face-to-face courses and facilitating your participation in the videoconferences, as well as for the issue of certificates. Data may be disclosed to external clients for the purposes of payment processing (PayPal).
The data will only be used for the purposes described in this declaration; any other use is always made subject to renewed consent. Your data will not be used for advertising purposes. We will not transfer your personal information to third parties unless we have your permission or are required by law to do so.
In the following we inform you about the legal basis of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), on the basis of which we process personal data. Please note that, in addition to the regulations of the GDPR, national data protection regulations may apply in your country or in our country of residence or domicile. Access to the personal data is restricted to participants of the e-Learning and face-to-face courses and to those employees of Heidelberg Institute of Global Health and evaplan at the University Hospital Heidelberg who are required to process the data according to the above mentioned purposes and to handle it properly and confidentially.
We transfer your data to the external service provider think modular – digital solutions GmbH, which supports us in the following activities: online payment systems, storage and management of data, IT support, implementation of videoconferences and events. In doing so, we ensure that this service provider is carefully selected in accordance with data protection requirements.
Heidelberg Institute of Global Health and evaplan at the University Hospital Heidelberg secure the data by means of suitable technical and organizational measures against unintentional or intended falsification, destruction, loss or access by unauthorized persons.
All data for the website and courses are hosted either at evaplan servers or on servers of Hetzner GmbH data centers, located in Germany, in accordance with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
Lists with the names and contact data of the participants are stored on the servers of evaplan at the University Hospital Heidelberg and Heidelberg Institute of Global Health.
We will only retain personal data for as long as is necessary for the purposes we are using it for. How long we retain data will vary depending on the purposes it is used for.
You have the right to ask for your personal data, to have it corrected if necessary, or to request that the processing be restricted or the data deleted. The data will then be deleted. The permission granted to use the personal data can also be revoked at any time. This does not affect the lawfulness of processing until the time of revocation.
